Dominic put his cell phone in the laundry
We were re-bandaging Ding's paw tonight and she got scared (big surprise, it being Ding) and peed on Dominic's lap. After we got her bandage finished, he went downstairs and put his clothes in the wash, then came up and took a shower. Then he remembered... his cell phone was in his pants pocket. DOH!!!

I took the battery out, dried it off as best I could, wrapped it in a paper towel, put it in a plastic bag, put the vaccuum hose in there, sucked as much water out that way as I could, then put it in a baggie of rice (along with the battery). I'll give it a couple of days and see if it works. Here's hoping :X

Just wanted to inquire if this worked for you... My hubby who was drunk tonight spilled some wine on his clothes and went in to change. I didn't know his cell phone was in the pocket of his pants and he put it in hot water in the laundry tub. I remembered you mentioning rice in a baggie and did that leaving the battery out of the bag. And put it all near a portable small heater (my friend's suggestion at this late hour)... He has to have the phone working as he goes to toronto tomorrow for his new job (sigh....)

I'm praying it worked for you and dominic. let me know! I'll know more in morning...

It powers on but it seems to think the battery is not a "genuine battery"... we're going to take it to the Verizon store and see if they know what to do. It clearly didn't totally fry, though, as it still displays text on the screen.

I think that we got the most water out, however, by wrapping it in a paper towel, putting that in a baggie, then putting the vacuum cleaner hose in, right up against it, and letting it suck for a long time.

They also say that you can soak it in rubbing alcohol, then dry it, and that the alcohol will get the water out and then evaporate itself faster and more cleanly. I didn't try that though.
